March–April Discipleship | The Mission of the Church
Theme: Empowered by the Holy Spirit to fulfill God’s mission
Key Text: Acts 1:8
Jesus made it clear that His mission could not be fulfilled through human strength alone. That is why He told His disciples to wait until they received power from on high. The church was never meant to advance only through strategy, talent, or enthusiasm; it was called to depend on the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8 teaches us that the Holy Spirit comes upon us for a purpose: to make us witnesses of Christ. This means that God’s power is not given to us for self-exaltation, but to equip us to proclaim the name of Jesus with boldness, love, and spiritual authority.
A witness speaks of what he has seen, what he has experienced, and what he knows. In that sense, every believer who has been transformed by Christ has something real to share. Not everyone has the same ease in speaking, but every believer can testify of the grace he has received. The Holy Spirit takes our weakness and turns it into a useful instrument for the glory of God.
The church needs to return to dependence on the Holy Spirit. We need His direction to know how to speak, His sensitivity to discern people’s needs, and His power to remain faithful in a world that often resists the truth of the gospel. It is not enough to have the right message; we need the fire of God in our hearts.
Christian witness is not limited to the pulpit. It is expressed in the way we live, in how we treat others, in how we respond to trials, in the compassion we show, and in the truth we proclaim. When the Holy Spirit fills a life, that life leaves a mark. And when the Holy Spirit fills a church, that church becomes a living force in its community.
Application
God’s mission requires believers who are surrendered to the Holy Spirit. Today we must ask the Lord to remove spiritual self-sufficiency from us and teach us to depend on His power. We are not called to impress the world, but to faithfully testify about Jesus Christ.
For Reflection
Am I depending on my own ability or on the power of the Holy Spirit?
Does my life reflect the witness of someone who has been transformed by Christ?
What areas do I need to surrender to the Lord today so I may serve Him more freely?
Invitation
If you feel empty, tired, or far from God, today the Lord calls you to come near to Him. Only Christ can fill what the world can never satisfy. He not only forgives, but also renews, strengthens, and transforms from within.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…”
Acts 1:8
Closing Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill our lives with Your presence and make us faithful witnesses of Jesus Christ. Remove fear, indifference, and passivity. Give us boldness, sensitivity, and passion to fulfill the Lord’s mission in our generation. Amen.
