Week 3 — The Mission Begins Nearby

March–April Discipleship | The Mission of the Church

Theme: Carrying out the mission in our community

Key Text: Mark 12:31; Matthew 5:14–16

Many times we think of mission as something far away, but the gospel also calls us to look at those who are near. Our community is not an accident; it is the field where God has placed us to reflect His love, His truth, and His compassion. Mission begins where we live.

Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves. That love must not remain only in words, but be shown through concrete actions: listening to the hurting, drawing near to the needy, praying for the broken, serving with humility, and proclaiming Christ with integrity. A church that loves its community opens doors for the gospel to be heard.

Mission in the community requires presence. We cannot reach people if we live disconnected from them. We must see our neighbors not as strangers, but as souls loved by God. We must recognize the struggles of our families, the wounds of our city, and the spiritual needs of those around us.

Jesus said that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. This means our faith must be visible. Not visible in religious appearance, but in the living evidence of God’s grace. When we serve, when we accompany, when we show mercy, and when we speak of Christ, we are carrying out the mission in our community.

Iglesia León de Judá has been planted with purpose. God has placed us in this place to be a living testimony of His kingdom. We are not here simply to occupy a space, but to be a channel of salvation, restoration, and hope for those who live around us.

Application

The community needs a church that is present, sensitive, and committed. This week we can begin with something simple but real: pray for our neighbors, greet them with love, lend a hand, invite someone to church, or share a word of hope. Mission is also built through faithfulness in small things.

For Reflection

Am I seeing my community through the eyes of Christ?
In what way can I serve and reach someone this week?
Am I a visible light in my surroundings, or have I remained silent?

Invitation

If you are visiting this page and feel that you need a new opportunity, we want to tell you that Jesus Christ is still transforming lives. He knows your struggles, your story, and your need. In Him there is restoration, direction, and peace for your heart.

“You are the light of the world…”
Matthew 5:14

Closing Prayer

Lord, give us true love for our community. Open our eyes to see the needs of those around us and give us hearts willing to serve and proclaim Your gospel. Make our church a living light in the midst of our city. Amen.
